DOUBLE FLYOVER IN SALEM

The Highways Department has floated tender for the construction of a two-tier flyover at Five Road Junction in the city.Movement of vehicles on Omalur Main Road from Kurangu Chavadi Junction to Five Road, New Bus Stand, Four Road, Sarada College Road and Ramakrishna Road has been on the rise .
Apart from this, vehicles moving from Railway Junction towards Five Road have to cross the Bengaluru – Madurai National Highway at AVR Roundtana disrupting the flow of vehicles on the NH.The Chief Minister during the conference of District Collectors, and police officers held in Chennai in December 2012 announced construction of a flyover in the city.The first-level flyover would commence near AVR Roundtana and would split into two stretches at Five Road Junction.
One would lead to New Bus Stand while the other to Ramakrishna Junction.The flyover from AVR to New Bus Stand is designed with a total width of 13.60 metre, while the flyover from Five Road to Alagapuram will be 7 metre wide.
Again from Alagapuram to Ramakrishna junction it would be 13.60 metre wide.The second-level flyover starts near a jewellery shop at Kuranguchavadi and crosses the Five Road Junction and ends before New Bus Stand.
The flyover is split into two stretches.
One exclusively with a down and up stretch for the bus stand and the other leads to Four Road Junction and ends near Anna Park.This is designed with a width of 13.60 metre from Kuranguchavadi to New Bus Stand, from New Bus Stand to TVS will be with a width of 7 metre and from TVS to Four Road Junction it will be13.60 metre wide.
Officials said that the administrative sanction for the flyover is Rs. 320 crore while tenders were floated for Rs. 261 crore as other works like construction of drains would be taken up separately. The last date for submission of tender document is on December 31, 2015.
